If your smile is looking a little dull, teeth whitening can be an effective way to remove stains and brighten your smile. Here our Markham dentists explain how the ZOOM! Teeth Whitening process works whether you choose the in-office or the at-home whitening treatment.
The fact is that our teeth naturally darken as we age. Teeth can also become stained and discoloured due to lifestyle factors such as smoking, consuming dark beverages like coffee and tea, and taking certain medications.
Teeth whitening uses peroxide-based bleaching agents to help lighten the colour of your teeth. The whitening effect is created when oxygen acts on the tooth enamel as the peroxide breaks down.
Here at Hunter Dental in Markham, we use ZOOM! in-office and at-home teeth whitening options to help our patients achieve a brighter smile.
ZOOM! In-Office Teeth Whitening
In-office professional teeth bleaching can be completed in just one or two sessions, making it a very popular choice for our patients.
To begin the ZOOM! whitening process, your dental hygienist will guard your gums against the whitening solutions by placing a rubber shield over them.
Your hygienist will then apply the solution to your teeth using a small brush-like applicator. The solution will be left to act on your teeth for about 15 minutes using a low-heat lamp. Next, your hygienist will remove the solution and repeat the application process again.
The complete in-office treatment will take about two hours.
In order to achieve the bright smile that you're dreaming of, you may require additional treatments. Your dentist will work with you to create a personalized treatment plan for your smile.
ZOOM! At-Home Teeth Whitening
Step one in the at-home teeth whitening process is to have custom whitening trays created. When you visit the dental office, your dentist will do an impression of your teeth in order to have your custom whitening trays made to fit your teeth near-perfectly.
Your whitening trays should be ready for pick up about two weeks after your impressions have been done. Once the trays are ready, you will return to the dentist's office to ensure the trays are a good fit, then you can take your trays and whitening solution home to use.
Whitening your teeth at home is easy, you simply wear the trays for about 30 minutes a day for a two-week period, unless otherwise recommended by your dental professional.
In-office and at-home teeth whitening options are both safe, effective ways to lighten the colour of your teeth and brighten your smile.
