Dr. Rory G. Hunter
Dr. Rory Gilbert Hunter has been practicing dentistry for over 25 years. He graduated from the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Dentistry in 1986. That year he joined his father, Dr. C. G (Gib) Hunter, in practice, who retired in 2000.
Dr. Hunter believes that continuing education is crucial in order to stay current with all the advances that today’s dentistry offers. He is a graduate of the Seattle Institute for Advanced Dental Education, and the clinical clerkship program at the University of Florida for TMJ and Oral Facial Pain Management. Dr. Hunter has also completed educational continuums at the Kois Centre for comprehensive dentistry in Seattle, Washington, and the Eubank Institute in Plano, Texas.
Dr. Hunter is a current member in good standing of The Ontario Dental Association, The Canadian Dental Association, The Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario, The American Academy of Orofacial Pain, The American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry and The International Congress of Oral Implantologists.
Dr. Hunter has been happily married to his wife, Livia, for over 25 years. They have three children Cassie, Cal and Lara.
Besides his family and profession, Dr. Hunter's main passion is tennis. He was a former ranked Ontario and Canadian Junior. He won a gold medal at the 1980 Ontario Summer Games and coached Team Ontario to the gold medal at the 1984 Canadian Summer Games. He was a member of the University of Toronto tennis team which won five OUAA Championships. While at the University of Toronto, he was also awarded the bronze and silver “T” for athletics. Currently, Dr. Hunter’s hobbies include playing tennis with family and friends, skiing and travelling.
Dr. Kelly Sam Chu
Dr. Kelly Sam Chu is our senior associate dentist at Hunter Dental. She has been a part of the practice since February 2005. She obtained her DDS degree in 1998 from McGill University in Montreal. She graduated with great honours as she was awarded the Gold Medal for highest overall standing throughout the 4-year program.
After graduation, rather than go directly into private practice, Dr. Sam Chu chose to do a hospital-based residency at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal. There she was able to obtain more advanced training in all aspects of dentistry and gain valuable clinical experience.
For the next two years, she taught at a clinical level at the Montreal General Hospital McCall Dental Clinic, supervising a specific group of students through their undergraduate training. At the same time, Dr. Sam Chu worked as an associate in a private practice for six years.
In 2004, Dr. Sam Chu moved to the beautiful city of Toronto to share her exceptional warmth, knowledge, and skills. She is an active member of the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario, Ontario and Canadian Dental Associations.
She recently obtained her status as Fellow of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists. Dr. Sam Chu's continuing education is focused on Implantology, Periodontics and Oral Surgery.
Dr. Sam Chu is fully fluent in English, French, and Cantonese. She and her husband are enjoying their growing family. She also loves travelling, cooking, hiking, biking and orchids. Her goal is to provide high quality dental care in a stress-free environment.
Dr. Fanny Ip
We are delighted to have our dental team grow with the addition of Dr. Fanny Ip. Dr. Ip graduated from McGill University's Faculty of Dentistry in 2001. While at McGill, Dr. Ip trained under our own dental associate Dr. Kelly Sam Chu. Needless to say, Dr. Sam Chu highly recommended Dr. Ip to us, both for her dental skills and her warm and genuine caring for her patients. Dr. Fanny Ip seamlessly integrated into our team and is currently working every Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.
Dr. Ip completed a hospital-based residency in general dentistry in upstate New York where she received the prestigious 'Award for Patient Care'. Dr. Ip later practiced dentistry in Montreal for several years and was a faculty lecturer and clinical demonstrator at McGill's Faculty of Dentistry. In 2006, Dr. Ip and her husband moved to Las Vegas where she continued to practice dentistry. During that time they started their family and welcomed a son! Dr. Ip and her family returned to Canada in 2012 and settled in Toronto.
Dr. Ip completed the Surgical Program of The Misch International Implant Institute of Canada in September 2013, the Prosthetic Program of the Misch International Implant Institute of Canada, and the Dr. Edward P. Allen 's Minimally Invasive Soft Tissue Grafting for Teeth and Implants.
We are very fortunate to have Dr. Fanny Ip as a regular dental associate. She provides our patient's with excellent dental care in all facets of dentistry. Her specialties include: restorative dentistry (fillings), crowns and bridges, dentures, endodontics, pediatrics, periosurgery including pocket reduction and implant-supported prostheses.
Dr. Fanny Ip has seamlessly integrated into our team and is planning a full-time schedule to compliment Dr Hunter.
Dr. Fanny Ip is a member of The Royal College of Dental Surgeons, Ontario and Canadian Dental Associations, The International Congress of Oral Implantologists, The Misch International Implant Institute of Canada, and The Chinese Canadian Dental Society.
